CSVPA Graduation Ceremony Celebrates the Next Generation of Creative Talent

CSVPA Graduation Ceremony Celebrates the Next Generation of Creative Talent

Cambridge School of Visual & Performing Arts (CSVPA) proudly celebrated the achievements of its undergraduate and postgraduate students as they concluded their studies and received their diplomas during a memorable Graduation ceremony filled with pride, reflection and celebration.

In keeping with longstanding CSVPA tradition, the day began with a ceremonial procession through the historic streets of Cambridge. Led by Mace Bearer Andrea Barnard and accompanied by a three-piece band, graduands, faculty and guests made their way through the city, marking a significant milestone in the academic and creative journeys of this year’s graduating cohort.

The ceremony itself took place in the iconic Debating Chamber. Opening the proceedings, Professor Karin Askham commended students for their dedication, resilience and creative ambition throughout their studies. Reflecting on the vital role creativity plays in shaping the future, she delivered an inspiring message to the graduating class.

“Creativity is not a luxury,” she reminded graduates. “Never doubt its importance. The future needs creative people like you, and the future is yours.”

A particularly special moment in the ceremony came before students were called forward to receive their diplomas, as CSVPA celebrated one of its most cherished members of staff. Mandy Doyle was awarded an Honorary Fellowship in recognition of her extraordinary contribution to arts education and her three decades of service to CSVPA.

During her incredible 30 years at CSVPA, Mandy has nurtured and inspired hundreds of designers and illustrators, leaving an indelible mark on generations of students. Her unwavering commitment, generosity of spirit and exceptional kindness have made her a much-loved figure within the CSVPA community. The award was met with warm applause from graduates, colleagues and guests alike as we recognised the profound impact she has made over her remarkable career.

Graduands and their guests then heard from academic leaders who reflected on the accomplishments of the graduating class and the creative futures that lie ahead. Simon Thorogood, Director of Programmes for Fashion and Fashion Branding, Carolyn Timson, Senior Lecturer in BA (Hons) Fashion Branding & Creative Communication, Martin Andersen and Ed Dimsdale, Head of the Graduate School, each spoke with pride about the talent, determination and growth they have witnessed throughout their students’ time at CSVPA.

Their addresses celebrated not only creative excellence, but also the confidence, individuality and critical thinking that have enabled this year’s graduates to emerge as distinctive voices within the contemporary creative industries.

The highlight of the ceremony followed as each student was individually called forward to receive their diploma. One by one, graduates crossed the stage to shake the hand of Provost Kevin Hart, cheered on by proud family members, friends and lecturers whose encouragement and support had helped guide them to this important moment.

As the celebrations concluded, the occasion served as a powerful reminder of the creativity, passion and ambition that define the CSVPA community. This year’s graduates leave Cambridge not only with their qualifications, but with the knowledge, skills and confidence to make meaningful contributions to the creative world.

We are immensely proud of every member of the Class of 2026 and all that they have achieved. As they embark on the next chapter of their journeys, we encourage them to trust their instincts, remain curious and continue creating work that is authentically their own. The creative industries need original voices, fresh perspectives and courageous storytellers. Above all, we hope our graduates continue to tell the stories that only they can tell, carrying forward the spirit of creativity, innovation and individuality that has shaped their time at CSVPA.
