Vijay studied at Chetham’s School of Music and went on to Cambridge University to study a BA in music followed by a PGCE in Secondary Music Education. After moving to London, he completed a Masters’ degree in Jazz Performance at Guildhall School of Music and went on to take a Jazz Fellowship Post at the conservatoire.  

As a trombonist, Vijay has worked extensively in the jazz and pop industries with bands such as All Saints, The Chemical Brothers and Shed 7, as well as, The London Jazz Orchestra, The Brass Funkeys, Yolanda Brown. Through his own musical projects, he has performed at many prestigious venues and festivals around the world, including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, Havana Jazz Club, The North Sea Jazz Festival and Glastonbury Festival. 

As a composer Vijay writes original music and also for TV, including the theme song for a recent series on UK TV (Live at the Moth Club).  

Vijay also runs masterclasses and workshops for many organisations, including the Barbican Centre, the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, London Music Masters and the Cambridge Jazz Festival.
