From September 2017, students who successfully complete approved Higher Education courses at CSVPA will graduate with a degree from Falmouth University*, rated Gold for Teaching Excellence in 2017.
CSVPA and Falmouth are pleased to announce the commencement of a five year strategic partnership under which Falmouth will be the validating partner for CSVPA’s Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses.
Falmouth is a highly regarded UK University, with a course portfolio aligned to the creative industries. Its graduates consistently have excellent employment prospects, with 94% in work or further study six months after graduating, and over a quarter going on to launch their own businesses. In June 2017 Falmouth was awarded the prestigious Teaching Excellence Framework ‘Gold Status’, reserved for Universities where teaching, retention and graduate outcomes are consistently outstanding and are among the highest quality found in the UK.
CSVPA, based in the heart of Cambridge, is a leading UK independent art college, educating students from 16 years old on two-year Extended Diploma programmes, all the way through to postgraduate level. Its Higher Education courses include BAs in Fashion, and also Graphics and Illustration, and it delivers both a Graduate Diploma and MA in Art & Design. As an independent provider CSVPA is able to design and deliver its own degrees, but does not have degree awarding powers and therefore needs to partner with a University that will validate the quality and appropriateness of its degree programmes.
Guy Ballantine, Managing Director of CSVPA, says: “Falmouth University is an excellent fit as our validating partner. Its reputation for excellence, its focus on the Creative Industries and, importantly, its belief in – and support for – the value of education provided by independent providers such as CSVPA are tremendously important to us, and underpinned our choice.”
Professor Geoff Smith, Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor, at Falmouth, adds: “Falmouth works with a small, select group of partner organisations, and we are delighted to add CSVPA to that group, based on the quality of the education it provides and the strength of the student experience its high teacher to student ratios deliver.”
CSVPA and Falmouth will be looking at ways to collaborate in overseas markets – particularly China and other parts of Asia. “Falmouth has a desire to grow its international significance” Professor Smith continues. “CSVPA’s long track record of educating international students, and its strong brand overseas, fits well with this”.
Karin Askham, Head of School at CSVPA, adds: “CSVPA is ambitious to grow student numbers, in part through launching further Higher Education courses and Falmouth are highly supportive of this plan. We hope to launch further Falmouth-validated courses from September 2018 onwards, and look forward to forging a highly successful partnership, that will see hundreds of students graduate from CSVPA with valuable and prestigious degrees from Falmouth University.”
* Those students in Years 2 and 3 of CSVPA’s BA Fashion as at September 2017 will remain in teach out with Kingston University and receive a Kingston award, as will those students who started an MA with CSVPA in September 2016 and who are due to complete in January 2018. All other future CSVPA HE students who successfully pass their course, under the current partnership agreement, will receive Falmouth University awards.
