Induction week saw the arrival of 15 first year students, who participated in a week of one-day projects. They produced artwork for paper bags and stickers for the studio totem. The following week returning students brought the studio numbers to over 40 and the noise level to 11. The years were mixed up into group activities, to include group quizzes, group dance moves, with some drawing thrown in.
With the students all well acquainted and nicely warmed up, extended projects and studio workshops have begun. First years visited London Science Museum to gather information for the basis of a large par t of work this year.
Second years are working with their local environment, looking at such diverse themes as homelessness, retail, independence and open space.
The third year have engaged with the theme ‘Past and Present’, presenting their ideas at an interim crit this week. We have looked at character design, children’s books, and magazine ar ticles amongst other ideas. Final artwork is due next week.
There is a buzz in the department, with all students beginning to settle in to student life in BA Graphics & Illustration.
