BA Fashion Student Beats 80 Universities and Wins Prestigious Award at Graduate Fashion Week

Between the 12th to 18th June, BA Fashion Graduates from Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts (CSVPA) were selected to showcase their work at Graduate Fashion Week (GFW), the world’s largest showcase of BA Fashion talent, held in Coal Drops Yard, Kings Cross, London.

CSVPA graduates were selected to showcase their work in The Best of Show catwalk, the Samsung KX slow catwalk and the KX Retail Trail in Coal Drops Yard in Kings Cross. Students were also selected to showcase their work in the W1 curates exhibition at the luxury fashion store, Flannels on Oxford Street.

CSVPA Graduate, George Martin, was awarded third place in the prestigious Christopher Bailey Collection of the Year Award for his contemporary technical menswear collection. First, George was selected as one of 25 students to feature in The Best of Show, a catwalk which consists of the finest garments from the top 10 catwalk shows throughout Graduate Fashion Week. George was then selected from the 25 students who showcased their collection in The Best of Show catwalk and awarded third place for the Christopher Bailey Collection of the Year Award.

George’s collection and win surpassed entries from over 80 other universities both in the UK and internationally, including Istituto Marangoni, Nottingham Trent, Salford University, Norwich University of the Arts, University of East London, Edinburgh College of Art, Bath Spa University, Sheffield Hallam University and Anglia Ruskin to take third place amongst the winning line up.

Lim Sing Ying, BA Fashion Graduate, was also selected as one of 20 graduates for the GFW X Samsung KX Slow Catwalk, which took place on Friday 18th June and was invited to exhibit her work at the W1 curates exhibition at the luxury fashion store, Flannels on Oxford Street. Hana Harris, BA Fashion Graduate, was chosen for the Coal Drops Trail to exhibit 2 looks in the children’s wear category.

Holly Fulton, Head of Fashion BA Fashion, said: “It has been a challenging year for our graduates and the recognition they have received at GFW is a testimony to their hard work and perseverance. We strive to create an environment at CSVPA where the individual can flourish, and students can evolve a unique design handwriting. Seeing them acknowledged on an international stage such as GFW is a wonderful start to their careers."

I am very proud of them all and the BA Fashion tutors who have acted as mentors and provided inspiration to our BA Fashion students over the last 3 years, helping them to realise their full potential."
