At CSVPA our lecturers are all practising artists, designers and practitioners, with UK and International experience. Meet some of them below...


Chris Maughan - Head of CSVPA

Chris Maughan - Head of CSVPA

I have been exhibiting as a visual artist since I was 14 years old gaining my first commission at the age of 15. Over the years I have worked for top advertising agencies such as Saatchi and Saatchi, UK publishing houses and magazines including Bloomsbury, Macmillan and The New Statesman.

I have also worked extensively in television as a special effects model maker/ makeup artist creating iconic characters for British television such as "Nobby the Sheep" a stalwart of children's TV for seven years and recently revived for a TV quiz show.



Kevin Hart - Academic Director

Kevin Hart - Academic Director

Kevin is a Fine Artist with twenty years experience of teaching in Higher Education. Previous roles include senior lecturer for MA Communication Design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.

He has exhibited work widely in both group and solo exhibitions at venues such as the National Army Museum in Chelsea, Lethaby Gallery in Holborn and Mall Galleries in Pall Mall.



Jane Herzog Course Director BA Fashion Design

Jane Herzog Course Director BA Fashion Design

Jane trained in fashion design at UCA Epsom, graduating in 1981 and went on to complete an MA in Fashion.

She has more than 15 years' experience as a fashion designer for most high street fashion retailers including Top Shop, Miss Selfridge, H&M and Marks & Spencer.

She worked as a fashion designer from 1981 until 1997 and has been lecturing since 1997.



John Blackman Course Director for BA Graphics & Illustration

John Blackman Course Director for BA Graphics & Illustration

John has worked in the UK and internationally as a commercial freelance Illustrator/Designer for over 20 years. John also has an MA in Illustration. Clients served include; Penguin Books, Harper Collins, BBC, Random House, Oxford University Press, Dutton, Ladybird,Scholastics, Usborne, Procter & Gamble, Cadbury Schwepps, Virgin Airways, Macmillan, The Observer, Speedo, Co-op and Cambridge University Press.

He joined CSVPA in 2001 and has seen many students grow into successful graphic designers and illustrators within the supportive environment of CSVPA.



Renata Grant  Course Leader for Foundation

Renata Grant Course Leader for Foundation

A practising photographer for 15 years, Renata has worked both commercially as a commissioned photographer and extensively with young people of all backgrounds in finding outlets for their expressive/creative urge.

Renata has an MA in Photographic Studies, she is also a founder member of the MAPS collective which regularly exhibits in the East of England. Her mixed media work upon environmental themes was nominated for the Citibank Photography Prize.


Jean Stewart Head of Drama & Performing Arts

Jean Stewart Head of Drama & Performing Arts

Jean trained at The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and Glasgow University and holds an MA in Contemporary Theatre.

She has directed a diverse number of plays throughout her career most recently Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor, Gogal's The Government Inspector and The Threepenny Opera in the summer of 2008 for the Drama Foundation programme.



Elizabeth Nantais - Head of Music

Elizabeth Nantais - Head of Music

Elizabeth holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Windsor (Canada) in Music Education, as well as two Masters of Music degrees from Arizona State University (Music Direction/Conducting) and New York University (Piano Performance – Collaborative). She has toured as Associate Conductor and Vocal Coach with various musical theatre tours all over the world.

Lara Bjornson Course Leader for Pre-Foundation & A Level Art & Design

Lara is the Course Leader for Pre-Foundation and A Level Art & Design Programmes at CSVPA. She holds a first-class BA(Hons) in Surface Pattern and Textile Design from Leeds University and a PGCE in Art and Design. This is combined with work as a freelance Textile Artist and Teacher for the past 10 years.

Alina Popa Lecturer in Fashion Technologies

Alina is a lecturer in Fashion Technologies at CSVPA.



Andrew Luetchford  Lecturer in Visual Studies and Life Drawing

Andrew Luetchford Lecturer in Visual Studies and Life Drawing

In addition to being a Visual Studies and Life Drawing tutor at CSVPA, Andrew is also a Practising Painter and print-maker.


Ann Sun Lecturer in Illustration & Visual Studies

Ann Sun Lecturer in Illustration & Visual Studies

Ann has a Masters degree in Children's book illustration at Cambridge School of Art, Anglia Ruskin University, and a BA(Hons) in Illustration and Animation at Kingston University.

Ann's illustration work has been exhibited at the Cheltenham illustration awards, The Ronald Seale Annual Awards in the Ruskin Gallery in Cambridge, D&AD Design Awards 2008, "STRAVAGANZA"and at the Illustration Cupboard in London. She has been shortlisted and won highly recommended at the Cheltenham illustration awards, and has won runner up at the Ronald Searle Annual Award.

Her first book was published by Oxford University Press in 2011, as well as working freelance with Usbourne Publishing House, Jumped-up Games and many more since 2008.

Barbara Brownie Head of Critical and Contextual Studies

Barbara is the Head of Critical and Contextual Studies module at CSVPA.



Ben Maughan Lecturer in Moving Image

Ben Maughan Lecturer in Moving Image

Ben is a lecturer in Moving Image on the Art & Design Foundation Programme at CSVPA. Prior to this he Studied Animation at the University of Creative Arts in Surrey specialising in stop-motion animation. He has also worked as a freelance model maker at Complete Fabrication before joining CSVPA. In addition to teaching he is currently also working for an independent production company.

Caroline is a lecturer in Critical and Contextual Studies at CSVPA.



Cassandra Bradnack Lecturer in Applied Craft

Cassandra Bradnack Lecturer in Applied Craft

Cassandra is a practicing Ceramicist specialising in porcelain slipware design. She studied MA Arts Management at Anglia Ruskin University and BA Design Crafts at DeMontfort University where she focused her creativity in Ceramics and Glass.

Christa is a lecturer in Fashion on the CSVPA Art & Design Foundation and Pre-Foundation programmes.



Christopher Lane Head of Movement

Christopher Lane Head of Movement

Christopher is the lead movement lecturer at CSVPA and also a freelance theatre director.

His recent directing credits include the London production of the Off-Broadway musical Bright Lights Big City (UK premiere).

Christopher's work as an actor in the greater Toronto area spans 30 years and he holds numerous stage credits as well as film and television experience.

He trained in Canada, and at London's Central School of Speech and Drama graduating with a Master's degree in directing in 2005.

Christopher has an MA in Directing, Bachelor of Education, BA Hons History.

David is a lecturer in Graphics & Illustration on the CSVPA Art & Design Foundation Programme.



Dennic Chunman Lo  Lecturer in Pattern Cutting

Dennic Chunman Lo Lecturer in Pattern Cutting

Dennic is a lecturer in Pattern Cutting. He holds a BA in Fashion Design from Hong Kong Polytechnic, an MA from the Royal College of Art and a Postgraduate Certificate in Creative Pattern Cutting. He has worked for Betty Jackson, author of Common Sense in Pattern Cutting he is Currently working for ASOS and the London College of Fashion, where he is the course director.



Ian Dickson - Music Tutor

Ian Dickson - Music Tutor

Ian Dickson studied music at King’s College, London, holds a PhD in composition from the University of York, and is a part-time PhD student in musicology at the University of Cambridge. His music has been performed by, among others, the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra (also broadcast on Radio 3), the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne of Montreal and the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble. He teaches composition, theory, music history, analysis, and piano to sixth-form and university students.



Issam Kourbaj Lecturer in Fine Art

Issam Kourbaj Lecturer in Fine Art

Issam is a sculptor, painter and theatre designer based in Cambridge. He studied in Damascus under the well-known Syrian artist Fateh Moudarres, before completing his training in St Petersburg and London. Issam also has an MA in Architecture.

Some of his work is in the collections of the Department of Middle East and the Department of Prints & Drawings of the British Museum; he has exhibited on three continents.

Since 1989 he has lived in Cambridge and is now a Bye-Fellow at Christ's College and Artist in Residence there. For the past five years his work has drawn inspiration from the world of science.

Joanne Kay Lecturer in Fashion Design

Joanne is a Fashion Design Lecturer at CSVPA. She is a womenswear designer with over 8 years' experience. Holding a Master’s degree from the Royal College of Art, she has worked as a Senior Freelance Designer at ASOS and Zara as well as worked at Burberry.



Kat Hunter Lecturer in Craft and Make-up

Kat Hunter Lecturer in Craft and Make-up

Kat is a practising jewellery designer with a background in make-up and special effects for theatre and television. She is trained in specialist casting and prosthetic production specifically working with resin, foam and silicone.

Kat has also been a practicing jeweller for 8 years with a speciality as a jeweller is in small scale silver fabrication in combination with resins and recycled materials.

Louise Flory Lecturer in Fashion

Louise is an experienced designer/pattern cutter/maker with a diverse international background that includes industrial experience designing for John Lewis and House of Fraser and the creation of individually crafted garments for specialised outlets, whilst living in the Netherlands and Belgium

Mandy Davies Kent lecturer in Graphics & Illustration

Mandy is a lecturer in Graphics & Illustration on the CSVPA Art & Design Foundation Programme.



Mandy Doyle Lecturer in Illustration

Mandy Doyle Lecturer in Illustration

Mandy studied at Camberwell College of Art & Design, part of the University of the Arts London group, and has worked as a successful freelance illustrator for 23 years.

Her work has been commissioned by most of the leading publishers in the country and includes high level advertising projects in a range of media. Her love of illustration led her to the MA course in Children's Illustration at Anglia Ruskin University and her work in the local community includes workshops and exhibitions at venues such as Cambridge Corn Exchange.

Paul Morgan Lecturer in Interior Product Design and Architecture

Paul is a lecturer in Interior Product Design and Architecture at CSVPA. When not teaching, Paul is also a experienced designer/maker of handmade contemporary furniture.

Peter is a lecturer in Photography on the CSVPA Art & Design Foundation and Pre-Foundation programmes.



Rebecca Cuthbertson Head of Voice and Text

Rebecca Cuthbertson Head of Voice and Text

Rebecca has an MA in Directing, a Bachelor of Education and a BA Hons in History. Most recently she has coached the London production of the Shakespeare/Fletcher play 'Double Falsehood' and the YPS production of 'Hamlet' at the Royal Shakespeare Company, and past coaching included John & Jen (Finborough Theatre), A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer (London Premier). Rebecca has also worked at East 15 School of Acting and as a freelance voice, text and dialect coach.

Richard Bray Lecturer in Photography and Sculpture

Richard is a widely exhibited and commissioned sculptor with an MA in Fine Arts, ARBS. He recently co-operated with scientists to produce work for the Wellcome Trust Genome campus. He teaches Photography, Sculpture and Contextual Studies at CSVPA.

Richard Herzog is a Lecturer in Research and Study Skills at CSVPA



Stephen Reed Lecturer in Product Design

Stephen Reed Lecturer in Product Design

Stephen's designs have appeared in international exhibitions, books and magazines. Nominated for the Young Designer of the Year in 2006. Completed a commissioned permanent exhibition for London's Somerset House.



Suzanne Allen Lecturer in Theatre Arts

Suzanne Allen Lecturer in Theatre Arts

After studying Theatre Costumes at Wimbledon School of Art in 1987, Suzanne has worked for a variety of Ballet, Opera, Theatre and Dance companies in London and abroad (including the BBC and Royal Opera House) as a Wardrobe Mistress, Wardrobe Supervisor, Freelance Costumier, Milliner and Wigmaker.

Tiina Burton Technical Lecturer in BA Fashion Design

Tiina graduated with a first class honours degree from London College of Fashion and has been designing and making clothes since she was very young.

Tiina runs her own online business selling clothing and photographic prints. Her photography has been exhibited at the Affordable Art Fair in London and at the Pocket Utopia gallery in New York.

Tom is a lecturer in Visual Studies and Life Drawing Lecturer on the CSVPA Art & Design Pre-Foundation Programme.


Victoria Baldree Lecturer in Digital Fashion

Victoria Baldree Lecturer in Digital Fashion

Victoria is the Lecturer in Digital Fashion at CSVPA. She holds a Masters from the Royal College of Art, London and a degree in Graphic Design from Camberwell College of Art, London. She is a part time lecturer for UAL Art & Design Foundation and has worked freelance for Marks and Spencer’s Limited Collection and White stuff London.



Vivian Choi - Piano Tutor and Music Lecturer

Vivian Choi - Piano Tutor and Music Lecturer

Vivian studied music at the Royal College of Music and King's College in London, and holds a Doctorate from State University of New York at Stony Brook. She has won many awards as a pianist, including the Washington International Competition for Pianists and has performed in the UK, Far East, USA and Europe to favourable reviews.
